Charter Communications was formed through the 2016 merger of three long-established cable operators: Legacy Charter, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks. Today, the company operates networks capable of delivering TV, internet, and phone services to approximately 59 million U.S. homes and businesses, representing about 35% of the country. Within this footprint, Charter serves 29 million residential and 2 million commercial customer accounts under the Spectrum brand, making it the second-largest cable company in the United States behind Comcast. The company also owns, fully or partially, several sports and news networks, including Spectrum SportsNet, SportsNet LA, SportsNet New York, and Spectrum News NY1. Charter also plans to acquire fellow cable operator Cox.
