Eversource Energy is a diversified holding company whose subsidiaries deliver rate-regulated electricity, natural gas, and water distribution services to more than 4 million customers across the Northeastern United States. The company broadened its service footprint through the acquisitions of NStar in 2012, Aquarion in 2017, and Columbia Gas in 2020. In 2024, Eversource ended its 50% joint venture with European utility Orsted to develop 2 gigawatts of offshore wind projects in the Northeast. It also plans to divest Aquarion in 2026. Eversource had already exited most of its unregulated operations in 2006.
