PG&E Corporation is a holding company whose principal subsidiary, Pacific Gas and Electric, is a regulated utility serving Central and Northern California. The utility provides electricity to 5.3 million customers and natural gas to 4.6 million customers across 47 of California’s 58 counties. PG&E operated under bankruptcy court supervision from 2001 to 2004 during the California energy crisis and again from 2019 to 2020 following wildfire-related losses. In 2004, the company sold its unregulated assets as part of its first post-bankruptcy reorganization.
