T-Mobile US, Inc. was formed when Deutsche Telekom combined its T-Mobile USA business with prepaid carrier MetroPCS in 2013, followed by its 2020 merger with Sprint, creating the second-largest wireless carrier in the United States. The company now serves about 86 million postpaid and 26 million prepaid phone customers, representing roughly 30% of the U.S. retail wireless market. T-Mobile expanded aggressively into fixed wireless broadband in 2021 and now serves 8 million residential and business customers through its wireless network. It also reaches 1 million fiber broadband customers through joint ventures with fiber network owners, in which T-Mobile holds ownership stakes and gains wholesale access to network capacity. In addition, the company provides wholesale wireless services to resellers.
