Founded in 1980, United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) is the world’s third-largest pure-play semiconductor foundry, holding nearly 5% market share in 2025, behind TSMC and SMIC. Headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, UMC operates 12 fabrication facilities across Taiwan, Mainland China, Japan, and Singapore, and maintains additional sales offices in Europe, the United States, and South Korea. Its diversified customer base includes Texas Instruments, MediaTek, Intel, Broadcom, Novatek, and Realtek, serving a broad range of applications in communications, displays, memory, automotive, and other sectors. As of February 2025, UMC employs approximately 19,000 people.
