Vistra Corp. is one of the largest power generators and retail energy providers in the United States. The company owns 44 gigawatts of generation capacity, including 27 GW of natural gas, 6.5 GW of nuclear, 8.7 GW of coal, and 1.4 GW of solar and battery storage. Its acquisition of Cogentrix is expected to add 5.5 GW of gas-fired generation. Vistra’s retail electricity business serves 5 million customers across 20 states, including nearly one-third of all electricity consumers in Texas. The company became a stand-alone entity in 2016 following the bankruptcy of Energy Future Holdings.
