Weyerhaeuser Company is one of the world’s leading forest products businesses. After selling its pulp operations to International Paper in 2016, the company has operated through three segments: timberlands, wood products, and real estate. Weyerhaeuser is organized as a real estate investment trust (REIT), which means earnings from timber harvest activities are not subject to federal income tax, while profits from its wood products business remain federally taxable. In 2016, Weyerhaeuser also completed the acquisition of fellow timber REIT Plum Creek.
