Core is a layer 2 blockchain of Bitcoin, compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine, and aims to bring programmability, smart contracts, and thus decentralized applications (DeFi) to Bitcoin. The network operates on a consensus mechanism called "Satoshi Plus," which combines Proof of Work (PoW) and Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), where Bitcoin miners provide computing power to the validators of the Core blockchain.
