Kaspa is a decentralized, peer-to-peer, open-source digital payment network. The functioning of the blockchain is similar to that of Bitcoin in some aspects: a Proof of Work consensus mechanism, a deflationary currency model, no pre-mining at launch, and no central team at its helm. However, Kaspa operates on a different architecture called BlockDAG (Directed Acyclic Graph), which aims to be an improvement over Bitcoin's Nakamoto consensus. This allows for the parallelization of block creation and transaction validation, thereby drastically improving performance without impacting the security of the network.
